Balance in your design

I am often asked how I am able to decorate in so many different styles and the answer is that it's really more about the balance of the room then the style in which your decorating. If a room is well balanced then it will feel comfortable to be in no matter what style it is in. Every piece of furniture, picture, decor, door or window adds a weight to the room.  If you think if it this way it is easier to distribute that weight evenly around the room. As example lets say you have a door and windows on one wall and a light sofa on the opposite wall....fairly balanced....let's say the sofa is dark leather...now the room is too heavy on one side...consider darker blinds or drapery panels or a darker picture on that opposite wall...or maybe a small table in front of the window....and again the room is balanced.... I like to tell my clients that decorating is like putting together a puzzle...piece by piece...try not to get ahead of yourself...Distribute the weight and your room will be a comfortable place to relax...have a beautiful day!
